Welcome everyone to the SITE Graduate Education and Faculty Development SIG, as we look forward to our meeting in San Antonio. If this message looks familiar, it is also at http://gefd.uniblogs.org/, but wanted to have it here on the SITE site. Our GE-FD SIG addresses issues related to both graduate education and faculty development of and by teachers and teacher-educators. This is an extremely broad area, and this blog forum could provide us with helpful information to focus our SIG meeting at SITE, on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:45 in Texas Ballroom A.
The mission of our SIG is as follows:
The Graduate Education and Faculty Development SIG will focus on professional development of educators which occurs beyond initial teacher preparation and which utilizes technology to facilitate delivery and/or supports the efforts of educators to integrate technology into their practice. Relevant activities include graduate programs leading to awards, in-service programs offered to educators working in institutions at any level, and initiatives which facilitate organizational change associated with technology. Increasing understanding of how lessons learned can be shared through learning communities and other partnerships formed within and among schools and colleges is an important aspect of the work of the committee.
We would appreciate comments about current activities that promote the mission of our SIG (both graduate education and faculty development of teachers and teacher-educators), information about current related research projects, and suggestions for future activities, especially those that might involve collaboration among our SITE colleagues.
After our SIG meeting at SITE, participants in that session will be invited to take part in the development of a collaborative document (via GoogleDocs) that will review/summarize what was addressed at our meeting, and then will extend our discussions, possibly forming the basis for proposals for next year’s conference — where we might consider having a SIG panel and/or some collaborative presentations.
So please feel free to add comments below and then to come to our SIG meeting in Texas Ballroom A on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:45 to join us for what should be a lively discussion.
See y’all in San Antonio…
