A Forum for Teachers and School Leaders

Introduction

The U.S. and other leaders from 50 countries on digital learning will gather at the SITE 2010 Conference in San Diego, CA, March 29 - April 2, 2010. They will discuss the latest and most effective ways to engage digital learners.

Teachers and School Leaders are invited to participate in sessions on practical, effective ways to teach with technology in today’s schools.

Overview

  • Web 2.0 technologies and sites are becoming an integral part of youth culture: young people today create, remix, and share content with other creators.
  • Today’s youth are using Web 2.0 tools to create and communicate via blogs, wikis, podcasts, and digital video. In an era of globalization and a world that is increasingly flat, effective use of social media is rapidly becoming a vital 21st Century skill.
  • Corporations are using these tools to allow large, geographically dispersed groups of workers to collaborate.
  • Many practical, classroom sessions will be offered including but not restricted to:
    • Mathematics, Science, English, and Social Studies Teaching
    • Games & Simulations, Assessment, E-folios, Distance learning, and more
    • Digital Video in Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies Classrooms and After-school Programs.
    • Web 2.0 Sessions (blogging, podcasting, etc.)
  • Educators can tap students’ enthusiasm and creativity to shape and carry out their education agenda while preparing students for the workforce of the future.

A special workshop by Darryl LaGace and Barbara Allen of San Diego Unified School District, USA - highlighting San Diego's significant new investment in high tech classrooms.

Linking in-school learning with social media can make education more relevant, meaningful, and connected.

Educational leaders will share practical ways to bridge conventional school practice with informal learning. Learn how to harness student engagement as they address instructional objectives through creation of content.

Many practical, classroom sessions will be offered including but not restricted to:

  • Mathematics, Science, English, and Social Studies Teaching
  • Games & Simulations, Assessment, E-folios, Distance learning, and more

Registration

The Teaching with Technology Forum will span two days, Thursday and Friday, March 5 & 6, within the larger SITE conference. A separate program will be provided for local teachers and technology coordinators who register for it.

A discounted K-12 teacher registration rate of $40 (for Friday only attendance) is offered for teachers includes the Friday Tutorials & Workshops, Forum and entire SITE conference.
