Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to examine technology-based, data-driven instructional decision-making tools, their implementation, and impact on different levels of school systems Examining different tools in diverse settings will enable us to develop and validate an evaluation framework that will be sensitive to the dynamic and interacting factors that influence the structure and functioning of schools as complex systems. The project examines the impact of three technology-based applications on data-driven decision-making - handheld diagnostic tools, online data reporting systems, and district-wide data warehousing. Data have been collected at six sites, including three of the country's largest school districts. Implications for the use of technology-based applications for the examination and inquiry of data to make informed educational decisions is discussed.
