Abstract:
A growing proportion of teachers and students use tools to create digital media. Digital Storytelling facilitates various learning styles in the course of electronic content representations through which many teachers and students currently learn and represent their learning or ideas. This mode requires critical thinking and challenges learners to analyze the vast amount of information generated to synthesize and meaningfully support the message. In this session I will share the process, products, and reflections of two teachers who chose to explore digital storytelling during a National Writing Project Summer Institute to represent various modes of literacy. The products and the process of using the software will be demonstrated. The discussion will include digital storytelling as an instructional strategy, as well as procedure. Resources for evaluation procedures will be shared. Participants in this session will have the opportunity to engage in small-group discussion on work-in-progress related to facilitating digital storytelling.
