Help make the TPACK Handbook (3rd Edition) Open Access and Free!

(Donations to TPACK Handbook accepted below.)

Catalyzed by much interest at the SITE 2007 conference and launched during SITE 2008 by Judi Harris, Matt Koehler, Mario Kelly, and Punya Mishra, the Technology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge (TPACK) SIG seeks to bring together researchers, developers, and teacher educators interested in exploring technological pedagogical content knowledge (Mishra & Koehler, 2006) for use in all content areas and educational contexts.

TPACK (technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge, or technological pedagogical content knowledge) is the educator knowledge needed to use technologies effectively in content-curriculum-based teaching and learning.

Help make the TPACK Handbook (3rd Edition) Open Access and Free!

For nearly two decades, the TPACK framework has been instrumental in shaping the field of educational technology. Many of you, members of the SITE/AACE communities, have played pivotal roles in its development and evolution, contributing to its impact on our thinking and our careers.  Key to the framework’s success are the two editions of the TPACK Handbook – seminal works, offering critical insights into the framework’s development and impact.

We are now embarking on an exciting journey to develop the third edition of the TPACK Handbook. This edition is envisioned as an invaluable up-to-date resource for the next generation of scholarship and research in educational technology.

We also know that the prohibitive cost of these handbooks has made them inaccessible to many researchers and scholars.

Our vision is to make the TPACK Handbook 3rd Edition freely available to all.

The open access fee to make this possible is US $13,000.

Our humble request to you, members of the SITE/AACE communities, is to consider contributing to this cause. Every contribution, big or small, brings us closer to our goal—of making our research and scholarship equitably available to all.

Achieving this would democratize access to knowledge and lay the groundwork for the next round of cutting-edge research in the field.

Thank you, in anticipation.
Sincerely

Proposed SIG activities:

  • Gathering exemplars of TPACK in practice and making them available via the TPACK wiki
  • Discussing TPACK-related issues, challenges, resources
  • Strategizing for and participating in the continuing development and dissemination of the TPACK framework & exemplars
  • Planning and doing TPACK-related research and development
  • Writing proposals for funding for TPACK-related projects

The SIG’s future activities will be determined by the interests and wishes of its members. Please come to the TPACK SIG meeting at the next SITE conference. Until then, create an account on the TPACK wiki, explore resources of interest to you, and contribute to the quickly-growing TPACK community.
