SITE/NTLS Emerging Leaders Program
The Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) and the National Technology Leadership Summit (NTLS) are committed to supporting early-career leadership development in the field of educational technology. Each year, SITE selects one Emerging Leader.
Who Are Emerging Leaders?
Early-career faculty/researchers who have demonstrated potential as leaders in their education-related field are encouraged to apply for the SITE Emerging Leader award. The ideal Emerging Leader has a distinctly diverse background and perspective, is interested in strengthening their leadership potential, and agrees to participate in mentoring and shadowing activities hosted by the SITE President over the course of one year. The Emerging Leader is expected to contribute their unique perspective to national conversations, strategic networking opportunities, and collaborative exchanges. Through contributing to impactful SITE initiatives, the Emerging Leader can expect to strengthen all aspects of their leadership capacity.

Minimal Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Has recently attended the SITE Conference.
- Is an early-career faculty/researcher (1–5 years in a faculty/research role).
- Is seeking leadership opportunities in educational technology and teacher education.
Commitments
Applicants must agree to participate in the following activities:
- Attending the National Technology Leadership Summit (September 17–18, 2026) in person. See more detailed information below.
Note: There is no registration cost for NTLS, and SITE will cover up to $1,500 for travel and accommodations.
- Attending the SITE 2027 conference in Nashville, TN, in person (March 15-19 2027). See more detailed information below.
- Working with the SITE President and other mentors for one year in a mentee role, engaging in leadership-focused initiatives that address issues in educational technology.
- Collaborating with prior Emerging Leaders and SITE members in networking opportunities.
Qualifications
Applicants must explain how they meet these qualifications (~250 words each):
- Scholarly Contributions: Experience leveraging educational technology and teacher education research or conducting scholarly inquiry to inform practice, engage in innovation, and support in national initiatives.
- Collaboration: Experience building professional relationships, engaging in purposeful networking, and collaborating with colleagues across contexts or sectors.
- Impact: Demonstrated commitment to contributions that show current or potential in the field.
National Technology Leadership Summit
The National Technology Leadership Summit (NTLS) brings together approximately 50 national leaders in education and educational technology for two days of working sessions that address the most pressing issues in our field. Participation in this invitation-only summit includes opportunities for strategic networking with presidents of educational associations, editors of educational technology journals, directors of non-profit foundations, policy experts, and corporate representatives. NTLS 2026 will be held in person in Washington, D.C., September 17–18, 2026, and the 2026 Emerging Leader must commit to attending both days.
Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education
The Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) is an international organization that is uniquely poised to support an Emerging Leader. SITE serves as a central hub in educational technology and educator preparation, known for sustained engagement and collaboration among members. Supported by SITE leadership, the Emerging Leader is positioned to build a national network that amplifies their voice, deepens their expertise, and opens doors to future leadership within the field. SITE 2027 will be held in person in Nashville, TN, March 15-19, 2027, and the 2026 Emerging Leader must commit to attending the conference.
How Do I Apply?
To apply, please complete the online application form, which asks you to provide the following:
- Name and contact information.
- Your current CV (attached as a .doc or .pdf).
- Explanation of how you meet each of the Minimal Criteria.
- Acknowledgment that, if awarded, you will fulfill the Commitments.
- Brief narrative (250 words) indicating how you meet each Qualification.
