But that's not all that forms our landscape. As the gateway to the Texas Hill Country, rolling hills and sparkling waterways abound in Austin. And each night during the summer, we gather to watch 1.5 million bats take flight from underneath the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge.
Wondering why Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World®? The slogan became official in 1991, after it was discovered that Austin had more live music venues per capita than anywhere else in the nation. Today, Austin hosts nearly 200 venues and is home to thousands of musicians. Which means you can catch a show any day of the week, at almost any time. Austin is also home to lots of annual music festivals, including South By Southwest (SXSW), the internationally-recognized event featuring noted filmmakers, musicians and multimedia artists from around the world.
