SITE Interactive 2023 brings a new approach to conferences. An approach that focuses on works-in-progress and questions related to professional practices of any kind in educational technology and teacher education – research, teaching, design, service, promotion and tenure, funding, etc. SITE Interactive is a conference for people to come together to share and/or discover opportunities for collaboration. It is a conference for interacting more deeply with those who share your professional interests.
ABSTRACTS ARE NOW ACCEPTED FOR ALL PROPOSALS!
* Abstract submissions are required to be entered in both the abstract field of the submission form as well as uploaded in .docx format as a ‘proposal file’ for review.
SUBMISSION TYPES
Theme Conversations
These are discussions of big questions in our field. Organizers put together theme conversation based on grouping proposals (~5 or so), to provide facilitators who run the session. A protocol for the conversation will be given to a moderator to help facilitate the conversation. Proposals include keywords to help facilitate conversation groupings.
Keywords
Provide 3-6 keywords that summarize the topic or theme of your conversation.
Abstract
Include an abstract, 550 words minimum up to 2 pages max, for your proposal that provides details of the thematic conversation including:
- the big questions or topics for conversation
- who will benefit from being part of the conversation
- how you will present or facilitate the conversation
- what background information, resources, or experiences you will provide
- how it will encourage participant interaction
All abstracts will be reviewed for acceptance. Accepted abstracts will be invited to present. *Abstract submissions are required to be entered in both the abstract field of the submission form as well as uploaded in .docx format as a ‘proposal file’ for review.
Interactive Panels
A Panel, consisting of 3 – 5 people (including the chair), presents views on a common theme, issue, or question, and then discusses them with the audience.
The Panel must present an opportunity for the audience to hear well reasoned arguments and discussions about pertinent topics as seen from a variety of viewpoints. For example, ‘on-line testing’ could be a Panel discussion with panelists presenting arguments in support of, and in opposition to, online testing.
Panels must include audience interaction. Thus, the panelists should take no more than 30, of the total 60 minutes, to make their case and then guide the audience through a discussion and series of questions and answers. In an effort to present differing viewpoints, it is a requirement that panelists can NOT all represent the same institution, research project, or organization.
Panel selection will be based on the importance, originality, focus and timeliness of the topic; expertise of proposed panelists; as well as the potential for informative AND controversial discussion.
Panels must allot at least 50% of the time for interaction and discussion with the audience.
Abstract
The Panel leader should provide an abstract describing the panel and a submission file with the following sections that describe the panel:
- introduction that describes the topic or focus of the panel
- the significance of the topic or focus of the panel for the field of information technology and teacher education
- a list of panelists’ names, titles, organizations, locations, and perspective on the topic, with an approximately 150 word abstract of each panelists’ perspective on the topic
- outline of how the panel will be organized, describing the amount of time each panelist will be given and how the audience will be expected to interact with the panel.
All abstracts will be reviewed for acceptance. Accepted abstracts will be invited to present. *Abstract submissions are required to be entered in both the abstract field of the submission form as well as uploaded in .docx format as a ‘proposal file’ for review.
Collaboration Activities
These sessions allow maximum interaction in informal, small-group discussions on a single topic that result in collaborative opportunities. The format is appropriate for papers, projects, or other works-in-progress that encourage interaction. The idea is to provide participants with enough information to help them decide whether they are interested in contributing to the ongoing work and how such contributions could be made. Participants will be encouraged to walk away with commitments for helping to complete the ongoing work.
Abstract
Include an abstract, 550 words minimum up to 2 pages max, for your proposal that provides details of the thematic conversation including:
- a description of the ongoing project, including its aims, contributors, and progress
- shat skills, knowledge, or abilities are needed to contribute to the project
- how attendees will be able to get involved, i.e., what commitments attendees might make for contributing to the project
Preference will be given to projects that appear to have a lot of collaboration opportunities for a large section of SITE Interactive attendees.
All abstracts will be reviewed for acceptance. Accepted abstracts will be invited to present. *Abstract submissions are required to be entered in both the abstract field of the submission form as well as uploaded in .docx format as a ‘proposal file’ for review.
Virtual Poster/Presentation Exhibit
Overview and Description
The Poster/Presentation Exhibit enables researchers and non-commercial developers to asynchronously demonstrate and discuss their latest results and developments in progress in order to gain feedback and to establish contact with similar projects. The presentations can either be made as a single poster/infographic or 5 neatly organized slides + 1 title and contact information slide. Optionally, presenters can also provide a recording of up to 20 minutes to accompany their presentation. These kinds of presentations are ideal for seeking feedback about future directions for work, publication outlets, methods for research, etc. and could lead to full or brief paper presentations during the SITE spring conference.
Those who have presentations accepted will be asked to provide feedback to others who have presentations accepted. Presenters may specify the kinds of feedback they are looking for.
Abstract
Description of the planned Poster/Presentation Exhibit. The plan should emphasize:
- the problem
- what is being done
- why the work is important
- preferred feedback
All abstracts will be reviewed for acceptance. Accepted abstracts will be invited to present. *Abstract submissions are required to be entered in both the abstract field of the submission form as well as uploaded in .docx format as a ‘proposal file’ for review.
