Dear SITE friends and colleagues,
Welcome to the SITE Blog and particularly to the Equity and Justice SIG of SITE. As we are set to arrive in San Antonio I wanted to outreach to those of you who have expressed interest in this SIG and have you share your ideas and interests in advance of our meeting together if you would like. You will notice that there are already two substantive posts in the Equity and Justice category of the SITE Blog. Nikki Davis has shared important ideas and information on the international front and Bonnie Bracey Sutton challenges us to think critically about No Child Left Behind as it relates to both educational and digital equity. Feel free to add to the comments to those posts as well as to start new topics or generate new ideas, action possibilities for the group.
We are meeting Wednesday at noon in Exec. Salon 4 when SIG groups are meeting.
The Equity and Justice SIG is concerned about issues of equity and social, economic and political justice and the role of education in advancing these, with, of course, additional specific interest in the threats and opportunities of Information and Communication Technologies. As such we focus on digital, educational and opportunity divides (and, on the flip side, digital, educational and opportunity equity) – their interactions and our role as advocates and activists around these. These considerations span a number of equity and justice considerations as these relate to such things as language, race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, differing abilities, international relations and related issues implicated in varieties of forms of marginalization, oppression and/or liberation and transformation.
Please feel free to share your own specific and general interests in this area and your ideas for our collective work together. Thank you!
